Brazilian renewable power producer and trader Newave Energia SA is set to begin construction of the 452-MWp Barro Alto photovoltaic (PV) park in the central state of Goias.
The project is expected to commence operations in early 2026, with an investment requirement of BRL 1.3 billion (USD 239 million or EUR 214.2 million).
Funding for the project will be sourced partly from the company's capital and partly through SUDECO financing provided by Banco do Brasil.
Newave Energia is a joint venture (JV) formed between local steel producer Gerdau SA and Newave Capital, an investment manager specializing in the domestic electric sector. The Barro Alto project will be constructed across an 800-hectare (1,976.8 acres) area and will consist of approximately 731,000 solar panels.
Once operational, the solar park will generate sufficient power to meet the energy needs of a town with around 365,000 inhabitants. A portion of the electricity produced will be dedicated to powering Gerdau's steel production facilities in Brazil, while the remaining output will be sold on the local free energy market, as noted by Gerdau.
This initiative underscores Newave Energia's commitment to sustainable energy production and its strategic partnership with Gerdau in leveraging renewable resources for industrial applications.
