Brazil has achieved a significant milestone in its solar energy sector, exceeding 45 gigawatts (GW) of installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. This total encompasses both large and small-scale solar projects, according to recent data from the local solar association, Absolar.
Solar power now constitutes 19% of Brazil's total energy mix. Of the total installed capacity, 30.7 GW is from distributed generation (DG) systems, making solar the predominant choice for self-consumption across the country. The technology is employed in 99.9% of all on-site DG installations in Brazil.
Large-scale solar power plants contribute the remaining 14.8 GW to the national capacity.
Absolar also highlighted that the expansion of solar energy in Brazil has attracted investments totaling BRL 211.7 billion (USD 37.3 billion/EUR 34.6 billion) and has created approximately 1.4 million local jobs.
