Polish builder Industria Project, tasked with designing and supervising the upcoming turbine tower plant for Spanish offshore wind tower manufacturer Windar Renovables, has announced that construction is set to commence shortly.
A construction permit was issued on September 3, following the ratification of a concession agreement in January between the Spanish company and the Szczecin Port Authority for the 17-hectare port site designated for the facility. The plant is anticipated to begin operations in the first half of 2026.
The new factory will feature four production lines for wind towers, including those with non-standard diameters, as well as a raw material warehouse and assembly halls. Additionally, the site will include a parking lot with 100 spaces and access roads, creating approximately 400 jobs.
In February 2022, Windar announced plans to invest EUR 80 million (USD 87.6 million) in the offshore wind turbine tower factory in Poland. The facility aims to primarily serve the Polish market, which hosts some of the world's largest offshore wind developers, while also addressing the emerging demand in other Baltic countries.
According to the initial announcement, the factory is designed to produce 100 towers annually, enabling the serial production of sections weighing up to 450 tonnes, measuring 10 meters (32.8 feet) in diameter and 50 meters in length.
The towers manufactured at the Szczecin site are intended to support the next generation of 20-MW turbines, as noted in a subsequent announcement from Windar in October 2023.
