Brazilian metals and mining company SA is collaborating with European firm Green Energy Park (GEP) to conduct feasibility studies for a green plant in Brazil.

The partnership aims to support the development of a Mega Hub, an industrial complex dedicated to producing low-carbon steel products.

Vale announced that the primary objective of the future facility is to create a platform accessible to international steel companies for the and production of hot-briquette iron (HBI) within Brazil, thereby accelerating the growth of the nation's low-carbon steel industry.

The Mega Hub will enable Vale to produce iron ore agglomerates, such as pellets or briquettes, which will serve as input for HBI production using renewable hydrogen as the reducing agent.

Additionally, GEP, supported by 's Global Gateway program, will work alongside Vale on various aspects of the value chain.

This includes the deployment of electrolysers, the design of industrial production plants for green hydrogen and its derivatives, and strategies to decarbonize renewable hydrogen.
