The New York state Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission has approved two large renewable energy projects in upstate New York, Governor Kathy Hochul announced.
The projects are the Rich Road Solar Energy Center in St. Lawrence County and Prattsburgh Wind LLC in Steuben County.
The Rich Road project will be a 240 MW solar farm, supplemented by 20 MW of battery energy storage. This solar facility is expected to generate enough clean energy to power over 61,000 homes.
The Prattsburgh Wind project, a 147 MW wind farm, is estimated to produce electricity for approximately 62,000 homes.
Governor Hochul highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of the projects, stating they would create over 380 jobs. “These two massive renewable energy projects are prime examples of our progress in transitioning to a clean energy economy,” she said in a statement. “With the issuance of these siting permits, we are creating good-paying jobs in the North Country and the Southern Tier, while providing clean sustainable energy for our families and businesses.”
These approvals mark the second and third major renewable energy permits issued by the state this month, coinciding with New York's climate week efforts.
