Buchan Offshore Wind has initiated the scoping process for its onshore grid works by submitting the onshore scoping report to Aberdeenshire Council in Scotland.
The report outlines the project's proposed export cable route, which is planned to come ashore between Rattray Head and the St Fergus gas terminal.
Additionally, it identifies potential locations for the onshore substation near the existing SSEN Transmission substation southwest of Peterhead, where the project will connect to the national grid.
According to Ian Simms, Buchan Offshore Wind's head of consents, “Submission of our onshore scoping report is another important step forward for the project, which would, of course, make a meaningful contribution to Scottish and UK climate change and renewable energy targets.”
The onshore scoping report details the project's environmental impact assessment approach and invites stakeholders to provide feedback on planned surveys and methodologies. Public exhibitions are scheduled after the summer to further engage with local communities before the planning application submission next year.
Buchan Offshore Wind has already secured its offshore scoping opinion and habitats regulation assessment screening opinion, progressing towards seeking consent for the project in 2025.
