EDP Renováveis SA  has announced the commencement of operations at its inaugural utility-scale solar asset in Italy, a 10-MWp photovoltaic (PV) farm located in the Puglia region.

Named Boccadoro, the PV park in Serracapriola town features over 18,000 bifacial panels and is expected to generate 17.5 GWh of clean electricity annually. This output is sufficient to meet the energy demands of over 6,000 local households.

Roberto Pasqua, Executive Director South & East Europe at EDP Renewables, highlighted the significance of this milestone in aligning with Italy’s PNIEC goals. “Deploying EDP’s first utility-scale photovoltaic plant in Italy is a milestone and a demonstration of our commitment to Italy’s PNIEC goals of achieving up to 80 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity by 2030,” he stated.

With the addition of Boccadoro, EDPR expands its renewable energy footprint in Italy, where the company now has nearly 400 MW of wind and solar capacity currently under construction.
