Independent power producer D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) has successfully reached commercial operation of the Drew Solar plant, a 100-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) facility located in Imperial County, California, USA. The project secured a power purchase agreement with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).
Hy Martin, Chief Development Officer of DESRI, emphasized the significance of this solar project in furthering their partnership with SMUD and contributing to SMUD's Zero Carbon Plan. Additionally, the project demonstrates DESRI's commitment to supporting the local community in Imperial County through community benefit and public benefit programs. These programs fund scholarships for students in need, strengthen local businesses, and promote economic development in the Imperial Valley.
DESRI's extensive portfolio includes solar and wind projects across the United States, with a cumulative capacity exceeding 8 gigawatts (GW) in various stages of development and operation.
US-based engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, SOLV Energy, played a crucial role as the EPC contractor for the Drew Solar project. They will continue to provide ongoing operations and maintenance services for the facility. The Drew Solar project also involved co-development efforts with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority and Bona Terra Energy.
