Chinese wind turbine maker Goldwind said it has secured a 470-megawatt turbine order in Brazil, reinforcing its manufacturing footprint in South America and expanding its presence in the country’s onshore wind market.
The contract covers the supply of 76 GWH182-6.2MW turbines, which will be produced at Goldwind’s facility in Bahia state. The company did not disclose the name or location of the project.
Goldwind said all turbines will be sourced under Brazil’s FINAME regime, a local content financing programme that allows developers to access funding from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) or Banco do Nordeste (BNB). The framework is designed to lower project costs and accelerate deployment.
“This cooperation is of extraordinary significance,” Xuan Liang, chief executive of Goldwind South America, said in a statement. “The project marks Goldwind’s intelligent manufacturing globalization and deeper presence in South American market.”
The agreement also includes a 30-year full-service contract, which Goldwind said is intended to support long-term operational performance and optimise energy output over the life of the project.
According to the company, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 150,000 households annually, contributing to Brazil’s clean energy capacity and local industrial development.
