Voltalia has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with JSC Uzenergosotis, a state-owned entity, for its 526MW Artemisya hybrid energy project in Uzbekistan. The project combines 126MW of solar, 300MW of wind, and 100MW/200MWh of battery storage.
The PPA guarantees a 25-year agreement for the solar and wind components, and a 15-year agreement for the storage system. Voltalia emphasized that the deal ensures the long-term profitability and financial viability of the Artemisya project.
The Artemisya complex aims to support Uzbekistan's growing electricity demand, providing crucial peak power at the beginning and end of the day, thanks to its integrated storage capacity. Voltalia stated that the project will generate enough energy to cover the annual electricity consumption of approximately 2.5 million people in Uzbekistan, while also avoiding the emission of 598,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Construction of the Artemisya project will begin in the first quarter of 2026 for the solar and storage components, with the wind part expected to start in the third quarter of 2026.
In addition to the PPA, Voltalia has signed two other cooperation agreements in Uzbekistan. The first is for the 500MW/1GWh Turan Storage project, which is part of a partnership formed at the Tashkent Investment Forum with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade. The second agreement involves a 500-kilowatt agrivoltaics pilot project in the Tashkent region, set to be commissioned by August 2025. This will be the first agrivoltaics project in Uzbekistan.
Voltalia's expansion in Uzbekistan underscores its support for the country's renewable energy goals, including reaching 8GW of renewable capacity by 2026 and 12GW by 2030.
Robert Klein, Chief Executive of Voltalia, commented, “This signing illustrates our strong commitment to Uzbekistan's energy transition. In line with the discussions initiated on this project in 2022, we are today entering into a significant power purchase agreement, consolidating our activities in the country.
