Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE), a Berlin-based energy firm, has announced a strategic partnership with Brazilian state-owned utility Eletrobras and Kuwaiti project developer EnerTech to develop a green hydrogen production facility in Brazil. The collaboration aims to supply Germany and Europe with 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, starting in 2030.
The joint project will utilize electricity generated from hydropower and other renewable sources to produce green hydrogen, with SEFE overseeing the shipment of green ammonia to Germany. Once in Europe, SEFE will distribute the green hydrogen to its customers across the continent.
The three companies will be co-owners of the production assets, solidifying a long-term commitment to the project. This agreement aligns with Germany's broader strategy to secure sustainable energy imports. In line with these efforts, the German economy ministry projects that demand for green hydrogen in Europe could reach between 95 TWh and 130 TWh by 2030, equating to over 3 million tonnes.
This development follows recent discussions by the German government about potential green hydrogen imports from India, signaling a broader push to diversify hydrogen sources and meet Europe's future energy needs.
