France's EDF Group has partnered with Canadian developer Corp to co-develop the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) project, a green energy hub in Central Newfoundland. The project will harness over 3 GW of new wind capacity to produce and , targeting completion by 2030.

The estimated CAD 12 billion ($8.54 billion) initiative aims to produce approximately 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. The facility will include energy and molecular storage systems, as well as a dedicated port to facilitate global exports.

Development agreements have been signed, with a final investment decision (FID) expected in 2026. Construction is planned to commence the same year. Earlier this year, Abraxas filed an Registration (EAR) and partnered with McDermott for early contractor involvement.

The EVREC project underscores Newfoundland's potential as a global renewable energy hub and highlights the strategic role of large-scale hydrogen production in decarbonizing global energy systems.
