Grenergy has signed a strategic agreement with battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co (CATL) to supply batteries for the fourth phase of the Oasis de Atacama solar and storage project in Chile, scheduled to begin construction soon. As part of the deal, CATL will provide 1.25GWh of its EnerX model containers, featuring over 7,100 modules. These units are recognized for high energy storage density and safety, optimized for the project's high-altitude location in the Atacama Desert, and use LFP technology for enhanced reliability.
Located in northern Chile, Oasis de Atacama boasts an 11GWh storage capacity alongside 2GW of solar generation. With an overall investment of $2.3 billion, the project is projected to produce 5.5TWh of energy annually. Grenergy has already secured energy offtake agreements for the first four phases, with further stages under advanced negotiation.
Describing the agreement, Grenergy's executive chairman David Ruiz de Andrés called it a “fundamental milestone to consolidate Oasis de Atacama,” adding, “We are excited to have signed this first contract and to be working with the world's leading battery manufacturers on a project that will make industry history.”
