has submitted a proposal for a 500MW project in Aberdeenshire, . The Kintore scheme will utilize surplus renewable energy to produce hydrogen, with the first phase expected to be operational by 2028 and plans to scale up to 3GW over time.

This project is deemed “nationally significant” by Statera Energy and aims to support the UK's transition to renewable energy. By balancing the power system, Kintore Hydrogen will enable the integration of more renewable sources like wind. The hydrogen produced could also contribute to decarbonizing carbon-intensive sectors, including heavy industry and flexible power generation.

The construction phase is projected to create up to 3,500 jobs, with around 200 permanent positions once the project is operational. The economic benefit to the UK is estimated to reach £1 billion by 2035.

Statera Energy's CEO, Tom Vernon, stated, “We are delighted to have submitted planning for Kintore Hydrogen, the first utility-scale green hydrogen project in the UK. If approved, Kintore Hydrogen could materially contribute to the growth of the UK's hydrogen economy, support the UK's energy independence, and accelerate the development of homegrown industrial supply chains.”

Statera Energy, founded in 2016, has over 1GW of projects operational or in construction in the UK, with an additional 16GW in development.
