The government of Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul has entered into a partnership with agrotech company BeGreen Bioenergia e Fertilizantes Sustentáveis SA to develop green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to build three plants aimed at producing green hydrogen and ammonia.
The facilities, which represent a total investment of BRL 150 million (USD 27.4 million), will be located in Passo Fundo, Tio Hugo, and Condor. They are expected to have a combined annual production capacity of 8,000 tonnes of ammonia. The first plants are scheduled to begin operations by 2027.
The state government, through its Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment (Sema), stated that this agreement is part of its broader commitment to clean energy initiatives.
In addition to BeGreen, the state has signed MoUs with several other major energy players, including Ocean Winds, Equinor, Mitsubishi Power, and CPFL Energia.
