H2 Energy Europe has announced the acquisition of a building permit for its ambitious 1-GW green hydrogen project in the Danish seaport town of Esbjerg, as disclosed on Monday.
The Njordkraft Hydrogen project, outlined on its webpage, is poised to harness power from existing and forthcoming offshore wind farms, with the aim of producing approximately 90,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The plant's output is earmarked for the decarbonization of heavy industry and road transportation, with potential applications in the production of green e-fuels such as methanol and ammonia.
Having secured an environmental permit in January 2024, H2 Energy Europe underscores the significance of the building permit as a pivotal milestone towards realizing its vision of a clean energy system. However, the company acknowledges the existing challenges in central hydrogen infrastructure, emphasizing the crucial timing of decision-making regarding hydrogen pipeline infrastructure alignment with wind tender deadlines in Denmark.
In a social media announcement, H2 Energy Europe highlighted the importance of addressing these central hydrogen infrastructure challenges. The company emphasized the ongoing Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study of the pipeline, currently undertaken by Energinet and COWI, as a critical step in overcoming these hurdles.
