Equinor ASA has announced its final investment decision to construct a 140-MWp solar park, named the SdB Solar Complex, at the same site as the existing 223-MW Serra da Babilonia I wind complex in Brazil's Bahia state.
The project, to be developed by Equinor's local subsidiary Rio Energy, is slated to commence construction in September 2024, with commercial operations expected to begin by the end of 2025.

The decision aligns with Equinor's strategic focus on Brazil, where the energy generated by the solar park will be marketed by Danske Commodities, Equinor's fully owned energy trading company.
Equinor already operates two renewable energy parks in Brazil: the 162-MW Apodi solar park and the 531-MW Mendubim solar complex. Furthermore, the company has a robust pipeline of over 1.5 GW in solar and wind projects under development through Rio Energy.
