EnergyRe has finalized agreements to provide solar power to five Department of Defense (DOD) facilities in South Carolina through 135 MW of photovoltaic (PV) projects.
According to EnergyRe's announcement on Tuesday, the contracts entail two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs), marking a significant commitment to sustainable energy procurement by DOD, one of the largest global purchasers of electricity. These agreements are expected to supply approximately 4.8 million MWh of electricity to facilities including Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Fort Liberty, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Shaw Air Force Base across North and South Carolina.
EnergyRe outlined its strategy, stating: “We are pleased to contribute to the Department of Defense's renewable energy goals through these PPAs, demonstrating our commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.”
The contracts were facilitated through DOD's participation in Duke Energy Corp's (NYSE:DUK) Green Source Advantage (GSA) program, which aims to expand renewable energy access for participating organizations.
EnergyRe will fulfill its obligations under the agreements using electricity generated from its 60-MW Shorthorn and 75-MW Culpepper solar farms. Both projects are scheduled to commence operations in the last quarter of 2026 and have secured 15-year PPAs with Duke Energy. The combined investment for these projects totals USD 190.8 million (EUR 177.7 million).
