French energy conglomerate TotalEnergies SE has inaugurated a 70-megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) park in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece, marking a significant addition to its renewable energy portfolio in the country.
With the commissioning of the new facility, TotalEnergies has bolstered its installed wind and solar power capacity in Greece to over 400 megawatts (MW). The company revealed its robust commitment to the Greek renewable energy sector, with ongoing development projects totaling more than 1 gigawatt (GW) in its pipeline since establishing operations in 2012.
The Xirokambi PV park, situated in Laconia, Peloponnese, comprises 123,900 panels affixed to fixed structures, spanning approximately 75 hectares (185 acres) of land. Constructed at an estimated cost of EUR 52 million (USD 56.2 million), the park is anticipated to generate 120 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, sufficient to satisfy the energy needs of around 30,000 average local households.
TotalEnergies initiated the construction of the plant during the summer of 2022, with the company's in-house technical team assuming responsibility for its ongoing operations and maintenance.
