Grupo Verfrut Chile & Peru has officially inaugurated a groundbreaking floating solar farm with a capacity of 1,090 kWp on an irrigation dam in the O'Higgins region of central Chile. The Chilean energy ministry announced on Thursday that this initiative marks the establishment of the largest floating solar farm in the Southern Cone.
The solar facility, comprising 1,998 solar panels, has been strategically positioned to generate electricity, catering to approximately 40% of Grupo Verfrut's energy requirements at its Quilamuta fruit farm.
Solarity, the development partner, spearheaded the project, while Andes Solar undertook the construction, as confirmed by Grupo Verfrut through its social media channels. Looking ahead, Solarity has plans to enhance the solar farm's capabilities in the second phase by incorporating storage systems. This strategic expansion aims to empower the facility to meet Grupo Verfrut's entire energy needs round the clock, achieving 100% sustainability, according to statements from the energy ministry.
