Energy industry leader Iberdrola has introduced a groundbreaking solar community at the Nexum Retail Park in Fuenlabrada, marking it as the most extensive initiative of its kind in Spain.
This visionary project aims to benefit over 1,100 families residing within a two-kilometer radius of the retail park, offering them access to solar power and the potential to reduce their energy consumption by up to 40%.
The solar community, boasting a capacity to generate over one million kWh annually, is realized through a network of 1,350 solar panels strategically positioned on the rooftops of the business park. These panels, combined, contribute to a robust power output of 735kW.
Luis Buil, Director of Smart Solutions at Iberdrola, expressed enthusiasm about the Nexum Retail Park's role in pioneering electrification as a potent tool for decarbonization. The project extends its innovation to include an electric station equipped with eight semi-fast recharging stations and five ultra-fast chargers, enabling the concurrent charging of up to 26 electric vehicles.
Iberdrola is committed to harnessing data analytics to enable real-time monitoring of the retail park's electricity supply. This cutting-edge approach not only ensures the swift detection of issues but also maintains operational efficiency, maximizing opportunities for further energy savings.
Joel Franco, leading the Retail Park project, emphasized the positive impact of this convenience retail park on the Fuenlabrada community. With renowned brands, 700 complimentary parking spaces, and a collaboration with Iberdrola, this development introduces a state-of-the-art sustainable infrastructure, enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
