GAC Bahrain, a leading logistics service provider in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has taken a major step towards boosting its sustainability efforts by installing over 550 solar panels on the rooftop of its warehouse in Bahrain Investment Wharf in Al Hidd. The solar array is expected to generate up to 487,000 kWh of clean and renewable energy annually, reducing the company’s CO2 emissions by more than 485 tonnes and making about 195 tonnes of standard coal savings in the first year alone.

The project was carried out by Al Mannai Projects, a reputable renewable energy solutions provider, and adhered to all relevant local regulations and safety standards over the course of five months. Johan Fulke, Managing Director of GAC Bahrain, expressed his commitment to minimizing the company’s impact on the environment, saying, “The solar panel installation is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey and demonstrates our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and adopting renewable energy sources.”

Talal Al Mannai, Chief Executive Officer of Al Mannai Projects, praised the project’s completion, saying, “The project was finished on schedule and met all international and Bahraini Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) standards.” This initiative is part of GAC Bahrain’s wider commitment to environmental responsibility, which aligns with the GAC Group’s sustainability strategy, including its commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Bahrain is also committed to promoting renewable energy adoption in the country, with a target of generating 5% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30% through local decarbonisation projects and doubling the development of regional renewable infrastructure. By investing in renewable energy, GAC Bahrain aims to reduce its carbon footprint, lower energy costs, and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The solar panel installation is a testament to GAC Bahrain’s commitment to sustainability and its dedication to adopting renewable energy sources. As the company continues to take steps towards reducing its carbon footprint, it is setting an example for others in the industry to follow. As Johan Fulke stated, “We will continue to explore new and innovative ways to become more sustainable and reduce our impact on the environment.”
