German turbine manufacturer Nordex said it has launched an investigation following the collapse of a wind turbine at the Herkentrup wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia.
On Oct. 27, the upper tower segment of an N149/4.X turbine, including the nacelle, hub and rotor blades, fell to the ground at the 13.5MW project, the company told reNEWS.
“The damage was discovered in the morning. All necessary safety measures were implemented immediately after the incident,” Nordex said in a statement, adding that “material damage was sustained” but no-one was injured.
Nordex said a team of experts, working closely with the customer, had begun investigating the cause of the collapse. “However, at this point in time, no statement can yet be made regarding the underlying cause,” the company added.
The Herkentrup wind farm, located near Münster, comprises three N149/4.X turbines with 125-metre towers. The project was installed in 2023 and is owned and operated by Windpark Herkentrup GmbH & Co. KG.
