ENGIE North America said it has signed additional power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta Platforms, expanding their collaboration to more than 1.3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity across four projects in Texas.
The new agreements include the 600-megawatt (MW) Swenson Ranch Solar project in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, which will be ENGIE’s largest solar development to date. Meta will purchase all of the project’s output to help power its data center operations in the United States.
Swenson Ranch represents an investment of about $900 million and is expected to employ more than 350 workers during construction. The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and is projected to generate over $158 million in tax revenues for the county and local hospital district throughout its lifetime.
“We are excited to continue the expansion of our relationship with Meta,” said Dave Carroll, chief executive and chief renewables officer at ENGIE North America. “Our objective is to bring reliable, cost-competitive power to the grid as rapidly as possible, and projects like Swenson demonstrate the importance of solar to meet the timely needs of our customers.”
Meta said the deal strengthens its commitment to powering its operations with renewable energy. “We are thrilled to bring an additional 600MW of solar energy to the grid, and expand our partnership with ENGIE to 1.3GW,” said Urvi Parekh, Meta’s head of global energy. “Our collaboration enables us to continue matching 100% of our electricity use with clean and renewable energy to support our data centre operations.”
ENGIE said Swenson Ranch will form part of its 11GW portfolio of operating and under-construction solar, wind, and battery assets across North America.
The agreement adds to a growing number of large-scale renewable partnerships between energy developers and major technology companies, as firms seek to meet sustainability targets and ensure stable power supplies for expanding data operations.
