Vestas has received a 274 megawatt (MW) turbine order from EDF Power Solutions North America for the Madawaska wind project in Quebec, the second of three projects awarded to EDF by Hydro-Québec in a recent procurement round.
The agreement includes the supply of 25 V162-6.0MW and 20 V162-6.2MW turbines from Vestas’ EnVentus platform, as well as a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 service contract to ensure ongoing maintenance and performance.
EDF Power Solutions said the Madawaska project will contribute to Quebec’s clean energy transition and support local economic development. “As the Madawaska project moves forward, we are committed to leveraging these strong partnerships to continue to make a meaningful impact on Quebec’s energy future,” said Tristan Grimbert, president and CEO of EDF Power Solutions North America.
Delivery of the turbines is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with full commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
The wind project will also include local content contributions. Quebec-based manufacturer Marmen will supply turbine towers, supporting approximately 150 jobs at its facility in Matane.
Laura Beane, president of Vestas North America, said the project reflects continued progress in the region’s renewable energy goals. “Through continued investment in Quebec’s energy future, collectively we are helping pave the way for large-scale renewable development,” Beane said.
Vestas currently has more than 5 gigawatts of installed capacity across Canada and services 428MW of operating turbines in Quebec. The company is also constructing an additional 347MW of wind projects in the province.
