OEG Energy Group Limited has opened a new office in Edinburgh, signaling its commitment to supporting the rapid expansion of offshore wind projects across Scotland and beyond. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to capitalize on the growing offshore wind sector, which has seen significant momentum following the ScotWind leasing round, which unlocked 27.6GW of new capacity.
The Edinburgh location is seen as an ideal hub for the next phase of offshore wind development due to its proximity to key North Sea projects, major port infrastructure, and an established supply chain. OEG also announced plans to expand its workforce in the city, starting with an initial team of six new hires. The company aims to recruit up to 24 additional employees as demand for renewables projects grows.
The new office spans approximately 2,000 square feet and is equipped with advanced technology to support 24/7 monitoring of offshore wind operations.
OEG CEO John Heiton emphasized the significance of the move, stating: “Opening our new Edinburgh hub marks a significant milestone for the business, establishing a central base for the delivery of offshore wind projects. This latest strategic investment in infrastructure and technology reinforces our long-term commitment to supporting Scotland and the UK's renewables sector.”
Heiton also highlighted the company's role in helping meet the ambitious 2030 offshore wind targets set by both the Scottish and UK governments, contributing to the transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, welcomed the establishment of OEG's new hub, noting the company's strong track record in supporting offshore wind projects in Scotland. “This substantial investment in a dedicated offshore wind facility in Edinburgh highlights OEG's commitment to our industry and is testament to the hard work of its team,” Mack said. “Scotland's supply chain will play an integral role in our move towards a renewable energy-driven future.”
The opening of the Edinburgh office follows the establishment of OEG's new corporate headquarters in Aberdeen, underscoring the company's broader expansion within the renewables sector. In 2024, OEG's renewables segment accounted for 55% of its total revenue.
