U.S.-based ECO TLP has made significant progress in the commercial readiness of its floating offshore wind platform, securing non-site-specific Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) approval for its Hybrid Spar-TLP platform from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This approval is a key step toward enabling the platform’s commercial deployment at various global project locations.

Alexander Overgaard, Head of Business Development at ECO TLP, commented on the achievement, stating, “This milestone confirms our technology is ready for large-scale commercial use. We offer a simpler, smarter, and highly cost-effective floating offshore wind solution, developed without reliance on expensive prototypes or extensive port investments.”

The Hybrid Spar-TLP platform is designed to increase the scalability of offshore wind projects. Overgaard further explained that the platform could double the capacity of the 500MW floating offshore wind project at Utsira Nord. “With ECO TLP’s platform, doubling the output is not only achievable but practical,” he added.

In addition to enhancing project capacity, ECO TLP’s platform supports local manufacturing, minimizes logistics risks, and generates local employment opportunities. The company has collaborated closely with international partners, including Arup International Projects, to ensure a “thoroughly validated and globally scalable solution.”

Overgaard also highlighted the potential for expanding ECO TLP’s platform beyond the Norwegian market, saying, “In the process of identifying Norwegian partners for local fabrication and assembly for Utsira Nord, we recognized a significant potential for exporting our foundations to other European projects as well. This opens exciting opportunities for Norwegian industrial exports, beyond the domestic market.
