Nestle SA has signed a wind power consortium contract with Enel Brasil, acquiring shares and electricity from three wind farms in the 206-MW Cumaru complex. Nestle will hold between 40% and 47% of the wind power plants, according to Enel's Brazilian unit.
The renewable energy generated by these wind farms will supply Nestle's factories in the Brazilian states of Sao Paulo, Espirito Santo, and Minas Gerais.
Enel Green Power, a subsidiary of Italian energy giant Enel SpA, will lead the consortia and manage the wind farms' operations. The deal has already received approval from Brazil's antitrust regulator, CADE.
Antonio Scala, president of Enel in Brazil, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “This is our first partner in a self-production consortium in Brazil under the Leasing modality. We want to continue acting as a driving force behind the energy transition and the diversification of the use of renewable energy sources, helping our customers on this journey to reduce carbon emissions.”
This collaboration supports Nestle's efforts to power its operations with renewable energy, advancing both companies' commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
