Stefan Thimm will continue his role as managing director of Germany’s Federal Association of Offshore Wind Energy (BWO) for another five years, the organization confirmed. Thimm has led the offshore wind trade group since January 2020.

Irina Lucke, Chair of the Board of the BWO, praised Thimm’s leadership, stating, “Stefan Thimm has led the BWO office with great commitment and strategic vision in recent years. Under his leadership, the BWO has opened up along the value chain and further strengthened its role as the central voice of the offshore wind industry.”

Lucke added that Thimm’s reappointment would ensure continuity and expertise in tackling the challenges and opportunities of expanding offshore wind energy in Germany.

Before joining the BWO, Thimm worked for the German Energy and Water Association (BDEW) starting in 2002. He was promoted to head the renewable energies department in 2009.

In response to his reappointment, Thimm expressed gratitude, saying, “I would like to thank the member companies of the BWO for their trust and the confirmation of my role as managing director. Offshore wind energy plays a central role in the energy transition and in ensuring a sustainable energy supply.”

Thimm highlighted the importance of offshore wind in Germany’s energy future, noting, “I look forward to driving the development of the industry together with our members and other stakeholders and to actively shaping the political framework under a new federal government.”

He concluded by emphasizing that the next few years would be crucial in determining how the legally mandated expansion of offshore wind energy would contribute to job creation and economic growth in Germany and Europe.
