Bristol-based Perceptual Robotics has appointed Julian Brown, former chair of RenewableUK and ex-vice president and UK country manager for MHI Vestas, as its new Board Chair. The move aligns with the company’s strategic goal to expand its services beyond wind turbine inspection.
The appointment coincides with the launch of the company’s new Repair Module, an innovative predictive maintenance tool designed to track wind turbine blade damage from initial detection through to completion of repairs. Perceptual Robotics described the Repair Module as an “industry first,” emphasizing its potential to help wind farm operators manage and optimize asset performance, reduce costs, and address critical issues effectively.
CEO Kostas Karachalios highlighted the significance of the development: “This marks an exciting new chapter for Perceptual Robotics. By expanding our focus from inspections to the optimisation of maintenance and management of wind assets, we’re positioning ourselves to meet the evolving needs of the industry.”
Brown, who joins Perceptual Robotics with extensive experience in original equipment manufacturing (OEMs) and consulting, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s future. “From day one, I’ve been very impressed with the technology know-how and professionalism at Perceptual Robotics,” he said. “They are doing astonishing work in the wind industry and I’m proud to be part of their journey. With the introduction of the new Repair Module, the company is moving well beyond traditional wind turbine inspection services, taking a technology leap, much needed in the industry today.”
Perceptual Robotics aims to leverage Brown’s expertise to guide its growth as it continues to innovate in the wind energy sector.
