French industrial gases company Air Liquide has announced a EUR 50 million (USD 52.9 million) investment in a hydrogen supply chain to fuel refueling stations along the Seine Axis, enhancing the decarbonization of transportation.
The investment will support the development of green hydrogen for various transport sectors, including hydrogen taxis, corporate vehicle fleets, buses, and trucks, along the route from Le Havre to Ile-de-France.
The hydrogen will be sourced from Air Liquide's 200-MW Air Liquide Normand'Hy electrolyser, currently under construction.
About 25% of its capacity will be allocated to this initiative, which will provide up to 3,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually for mobility company HysetCo, potentially enabling its customers to travel 20 million kilometers per month with zero emissions.
In addition, three-quarters of the electrolyser's output will supply renewable and low-carbon hydrogen to industrial customers in the Normandy region, including the TotalEnergies refinery in Gonfreville.
Emilie Mouren-Renouard, a member of Air Liquide's executive committee, emphasized that this investment will further solidify the company's position in the renewable and low-carbon hydrogen value chain.
