The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved a loan of approximately BRL 37.6 million (USD 6.6 million/EUR 6.1 million) to enhance biomethane and biogas production at the Tambora facility in Paraná state.

This project, owned by local company Geo Bio Gas & Carbon, aims to increase the facility’s production capacity to up to 1,500 normal cubic meters per hour of biomethane and 3,500 normal cubic meters per hour of biogas.

The financing is sourced from BNDES’s Climate Fund and its Finem Standard B, which supports the acquisition of new imported machinery and equipment in the absence of national alternatives.

Currently, the Tamboara facility generates around 21,000 MWh of electricity annually from its continuous biogas production. Upon completion of the expansion, the majority of the biogas output will be redirected towards biomethane production, according to BNDES.
