Tages Capital SGR has finalized the acquisition of a portfolio consisting of four biogas production plants, which will be converted to biomethane production by 2026. This marks the first investment in biomethane for the Tages Helios Net Zero fund, which has recently closed with €375 million in capital, primarily sourced from institutional investors.

The acquired portfolio includes four operational plants located near Pavia and Cremona, in the municipalities of Genivolta, Tromello, and Dorno, collectively boasting a total capacity of approximately 4 MW. Each plant is designed to have a production capacity of around 300 standard cubic meters per hour (Smc/h) of biomethane, enabling the portfolio to generate over 2 million Smc of biomethane annually once fully operational.

The biomethane will be produced through the processing of livestock effluents and agricultural by-products not intended for human consumption, including manure from pigs, cattle, and poultry, as well as triticale, wheat bran, grains, and silage sourced from nearby farms.

Umberto Quadrino, chairman of Tages S.p.A. and Chief Investment Officer of Tages Capital SGR, stated, “Unlike other renewable sources such as solar and wind, whose energy production is intermittent due to natural factors, biomethane can have various applications, including electricity generation, making it a programmable renewable source. This means that the availability of this energy source can be controlled and adjusted as needed.”

He added that biomethane is particularly flexible, as the energy produced can be injected into the same grid as natural gas. Quadrino emphasized the company’s commitment to continuing investments in this area to build an industrial-scale portfolio that aligns with the strategy of the Tages Helios Net Zero fund.
