Acciona Energia has initiated clean energy production at its Forty Mile wind farm in southern Alberta, Canada. Located 50 km southwest of Medicine Hat, the 280 MW project will be one of Canada's largest wind farms upon completion in early 2025, marking the company's biggest North American installation to date.
Forty Mile consists of 49 Nordex turbines, and Acciona Energia has now connected the first nine to Alberta's grid. The remaining units will be connected in phases over the coming months.
Once fully operational, the wind farm will add significantly to Acciona Energia's North American footprint, bringing its total installed capacity in the region to over 3 GW.
The wind farm's construction has provided approximately 250 jobs, and up to 25 permanent roles will be created for its ongoing operation.
Additionally, the project will contribute to local tax revenues and provide financial support to nearby non-profits, including Forty Mile Family & Community Support Services, Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society, and Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub.
