German energy group RWE AG has commenced commercial operations at its 203-MW Montgomery Ranch wind farm, located in Foard County, Texas, enhancing its renewable energy portfolio in the United States.
The wind farm features 45 Vestas 4.5 MW turbines, capable of generating sufficient electricity to power over 60,000 homes.
Installed by Mortenson Company and RES, the project is anticipated to generate approximately USD 50 million (EUR 46.2 million) in property tax revenues throughout its operational life.
With the commissioning of Montgomery Ranch, RWE's total installed wind capacity in Texas has reached 4.3 GW.
Overall, RWE operates a renewable energy portfolio of 8 GW across the US, encompassing onshore wind, solar, and battery storage assets.
The company is actively pursuing a project development pipeline exceeding 24 GW, viewing the US as a crucial market within its Growing Green strategy aimed at expanding its renewables sector and achieving net zero emissions by 2040.
Earlier this year, RWE also initiated construction on two additional wind parks in Texas: the 243-MW Peyton Creek II and a 203-MW project, further solidifying its commitment to renewable energy development in the region.
