Mitsubishi Power Completes 50 MW Biomass Power Plant in Japan

, a subsidiary of , has announced the completion of a 50-megawatt (MW) -fired power plant in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, . The facility is part of a full turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solution developed by a consortium led by MHI.

The Hyuga biomass plant will be operated by Hyuga Biomass Power Co., Ltd., a special purpose company (SPC) jointly owned by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., ITOCHU Corporation, Tokyo Century Corporation, and Tokyo Energy & Systems Inc. The plant features advanced equipment, including a steam turbine, circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler, and generator, designed to optimize combustion efficiency for biomass power generation.

Under the EPC contract, MHI utilized its extensive experience with power systems to construct and supply key equipment, including the steam turbines and CFB boiler. The air quality control systems (AQCS) were provided by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Power Environmental Solutions, Ltd., while Mitsubishi Electric Corporation supplied the generator and electrical components. Fujita Corporation managed the civil engineering and construction aspects of the project.

MHI Group has indicated that it will continue to focus on the development and expansion of power generation systems, particularly those utilizing biomass fuel, as part of its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
