Enersense, a Finland-based company, has been granted a European patent for its innovative gravity-based foundation for offshore wind power plants by the European Patent Office.
The newly patented solution allows the base to be floated to the wind farm site and installed on the seabed using a ballasting and de-ballasting process, eliminating the need for large floating crane vessels during installation.
The foundation can be lifted and reused at a new location or recycled at the end of its lifecycle, offering flexibility and sustainability. This innovation is expected to streamline offshore wind installations and reduce associated costs.
Enersense's vice president of offshore business, Niko Suomela, expressed pride in the achievement, describing it as “a significant step forward for the offshore wind industry.” He added that the patent strengthens the company's position as a leader in innovation, enhancing its ability to meet customer needs and develop high-quality solutions for the sector.
