SeaTwirl has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Serica Energy to explore the feasibility of electrifying Serica's offshore assets and oil and gas activities using SeaTwirl's floating wind turbine technology. The partnership aims to identify and evaluate opportunities to decarbonize offshore oil and gas production, as well as explore other offshore electrification possibilities, potentially integrating renewable power and subsea energy storage where applicable.
The collaboration involves collecting data from Serica's North Sea operations to assess the commercial viability and suitability of SeaTwirl's technology for these offshore assets. Johan Sandberg, CEO of SeaTwirl, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, stating, “We are truly excited to enter into this MoU with such a strong and innovative oil & gas operator as Serica Energy, who operates multiple assets in the North Sea and who has a solid reputation around innovation and decarbonisation of their operations.”
The two companies intend to explore various options with the goal of developing an electrification solution that could be a pioneering achievement in the industry.
