Catalyze has commenced operations at a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Bronx, New York. This project is among the first megawatt-scale BESS installations to be completed and approved under New York City's revised permitting process for such systems.
The Bronx facility, which features four Tesla MegaPacks totaling 4.29 MW/8.58 MWh, benefits from incentives provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). It will help manage seasonal peaks in electricity demand and contribute to the grid under the Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) framework.
Construction of the BESS was completed in 171 working days. Catalyze CEO Jared Haines emphasized the company's commitment to advancing BESS technology and supporting New York's ambitious climate goals. The project supports New York's target of installing 6 GW of energy storage by 2030 and the city's aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 80% by 2050.
Catalyze's expansion in New York includes recent achievements such as securing $100 million in financing from NY Green Bank and launching additional projects in Lancaster and Amherst over the past year.
