Low Carbon Receives Approval for 500 MW Solar Complex in Lincolnshire, UK

UK renewables investor has received development consent from the British Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for a significant project in Lincolnshire county, the company announced on Friday.

The approved Gate Burton Energy Park will feature a 500 MW solar complex paired with an energy storage facility, to be located near Gate Burton. The project will connect to National Grid's Cottam substation in Nottinghamshire, facilitating integration into the power transmission system. Once operational, the photovoltaic (PV) park is projected to generate sufficient electricity to power more than 160,000 homes annually.

Mike Rutgers, managing director of UK development at Low Carbon, emphasized the importance of timely decision-making in advancing clean energy . He highlighted the approval as a clear signal of government commitment to prioritizing energy projects within the planning system, providing certainty to investors and the supply chain.

The development phase of Gate Burton Energy Park is expected to create approximately 350 jobs at peak construction. Low Carbon anticipates starting construction as early as 2025, marking a significant step towards enhancing the UK's renewable energy capacity and supporting local economic growth.
