Horizon Power, the state-owned energy provider in Western Australia, has enlisted engineering consultant GHD to undertake preliminary engineering for the Pilbara Green Link project.
This initiative aims to construct shared-use transmission infrastructure in response to escalating power demand and the increasing adoption of renewables.
The Pilbara Green Link project will involve the installation of approximately 550 kilometers (341 miles) of high-voltage 330-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines.
These lines will connect Horizon Power's existing transmission network with the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) and other proposed large-scale renewable energy developments.
According to GHD, the consultancy will be responsible for delivering the preliminary design of the transmission lines and substations. The preliminary engineering phase is slated for completion by March 2025.
