Varberg Energi, a player in the Swedish energy sector, has inked a preliminary agreement with OX2 AB to procure electricity from the Galene offshore wind farm and potential solar projects along Sweden's western coast.
According to OX2, the agreement is aimed at facilitating the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs). It will encompass a PPA for the Galene offshore wind park, as well as an off-take deal for solar projects in Halland County.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Varberg Energi on advancing sustainable energy solutions,” stated an OX2 spokesperson.
The Galene offshore wind farm, a component of the 1.7-GW Galatea-Galene project co-owned by OX2 and Ingka Investments, is slated for installation approximately 22 km outside Varberg.
Approved by the Swedish government last May, the 400-MW wind farm will feature up to 21 turbines, generating an estimated 1.7 terawatt hours (TWh) annually. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2026, with operations expected to begin in 2028/2029.
Details regarding specific solar projects in Halland County were not disclosed.
