Spanish renewable power producer Ecoener is set to begin construction on a 50 MW solar photovoltaic project in Panama starting September, chairman Luis de Valdivia announced during the company's general shareholders' meeting on Thursday.
This initiative marks Ecoener's entry into the Panamanian market and represents a strategic move to expand its presence in Latin America, complementing existing operations in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, and Colombia.

According to De Valdivia, approximately 40% of Ecoener's revenues are derived from the Americas. The company bolstered its international footprint last year with the commissioning of solar farms totaling 96 MW in the Dominican Republic and an additional 41 MWp facility in Colombia.
In 2023, Ecoener's investment efforts led to the company having 740 MW of renewable energy capacity either operational (341 MW) or under construction (399 MW) by year-end.
De Valdivia reaffirmed Ecoener's ambition to achieve 1,000 MW of operational and under-construction capacity by 2025, with a significant portion—80%—covered by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Beyond Europe, where Ecoener has projects in Spain and offices in Greece, Italy, Romania, and Poland, the company continues to focus on expanding its renewable energy portfolio across diverse international markets.
