Toyota Tsusho Corp Launches 75-MW Biomass Power Plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan

Japanese trading company Corp has announced the commencement of commercial operations at a 75-MW -fired power plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, underscoring its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Known as the Yatsushiro Biomass Power Plant, the facility is operated by Kumamoto Forest Generation LLC, a joint venture between Toyota Tsusho's Ene-Vision Co Ltd, and utilities Power Co Inc and Toho Gas Co Ltd.

The plant will primarily use wood pellets and wood chips, sourced from unused thinned wood in the prefecture, as its main fuel. With a capacity to produce approximately 480 million kWh per year, the biomass power plant is expected to satisfy the annual electricity needs of around 150,000 local households.

The launch of the Yatsushiro Biomass Power Plant marks a significant milestone in Toyota Tsusho's portfolio, aligning with its commitment to environmental stewardship and the promotion of sustainable energy practices.
