Wood Thilsted, a UK-based consultancy, has been tasked with the front-end engineering design (FEED) of turbine foundations for the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind project, slated to be situated approximately 33 miles (54km) off the Lincolnshire coast.

Once operational, the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind project is poised to become one of the largest offshore sites in the UK, generating electricity equivalent to the needs of approximately 1.6 million UK households.

The venture is a collaborative effort between TotalEnergies, Corio Generation (a Macquarie Asset Management portfolio company), and Gulf Energy Development. The Development Consent Order application for the project, greenlit by the Planning Inspectorate in April 2024, encompasses plans for up to 100 turbines, underground cables linking to a landfall site near Anderby Marsh, and the establishment of a new onshore substation at Surfleet Marsh.

Integration into existing National Grid overhead transmission lines in the Weston Marsh vicinity is also part of the project’s infrastructure blueprint.

Currently in the developmental phase, the project aims to secure all necessary consents, conduct requisite surveys, and complete engineering tasks to enable operational readiness by 2030.

Wood Thilsted has concluded the initial phase of work and is set to embark on the second phase of FEED activities. The scope of the contract encompasses FEED design for primary and secondary structures, alongside detailed engineering studies, technical documentation, and cost modeling aimed at mitigating design and installation risks.

Alastair Muir Wood, Director at Wood Thilsted, expressed satisfaction with their continued involvement in the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind project, stating, “We are very pleased to continue our support to Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind with this landmark project and are proud to be able to bring with us an enviable record of monopile design in the Southern North Sea.”

Outer Dowsing’s Senior Project Manager, Jorge Parra, emphasized the project’s potential economic and environmental benefits, stating, “Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind could result in an injection of over £2bn of UK investment alongside the creation of hundreds of UK jobs. As we progress our engineering and secure contracts, we aim to bolster the UK skill-base and supply chain which will in turn help the UK realise our energy transition goals.”
