Greece's debut tender for Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) is scheduled to kick off on June 26, 2024, announced domestic renewable energy market operator DAPEEP, marking a significant milestone in the country's green energy transition.
The upcoming auction represents the first of a series of three REGOs auctions slated for this year, focusing on certificates issued for electricity generated from renewable power plants during the closing quarter of 2023.
According to DAPEEP's announcement, the auction will feature three distinct packages of REGOs, each allocated a separate three-hour bidding window. These packages encompass REGOs associated with renewable power plants supplying the mainland grid, encompassing solar photovoltaic (PV) parks and wind farms. Additionally, a separate category will be dedicated to solar and wind farms situated in Non-Interconnected island areas.
In an effort to enhance market transparency and accessibility, Greece's REGOs register will be interconnected with those of other European countries, facilitating the visibility of domestically-issued green energy certificates across all European markets affiliated with the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), as previously reported by local media.
The subsequent editions of REGOs auctions are scheduled for the end of September and December 11, offering certificates for electricity generated in the first and second quarters of 2024, respectively.
