Dominion Energy has refuted reports suggesting a delay in its Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project, dismissing claims made by anti-wind groups. The controversy emerged following a petition filed on April 29 in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking to halt CVOW construction.
Responding to the allegations, Dominion Energy highlighted that similar arguments put forth by the groups had previously been dismissed by the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in a case concerning an offshore wind project in Massachusetts.
In a statement, the developer affirmed its confidence in the project's compliance with legal requirements, asserting, “Dominion Energy strongly believes that the project's biological opinion is compliant with all legal requirements and expects to prevail against the request for a construction delay.”
Despite the legal challenge, Dominion Energy remains steadfast in its construction plans. According to the developer, installation of monopiles by the DEME-operated vessel Orion is set to commence between May 6 and May 8, in alignment with the established construction schedule.
Addressing concerns regarding project delays, Dominion Energy emphasized, “Therefore, any suggestion that any legal action has caused a delay to the construction timeline as of May 1, 2024, is false.”
