The offshore substation topside and jacket foundation for the Vineyard Wind 1 project have successfully left the quay at Bladt Industries’ production site in Southern Denmark. This development marks a significant milestone for the project team, which comprises Bladt Industries, Semco Maritime, and ISC Consulting Engineers. The departure of the components is in accordance with the original schedule, indicating that the project is progressing as planned.

Bladt Industries, renowned for its expertise in steel manufacturing, takes pride in its involvement in Vineyard Wind 1. As the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the United States, this project holds a special significance. Having been part of Denmark’s initial offshore wind projects when the industry was nascent, Bladt Industries is thrilled to contribute to the first offshore wind endeavor in the U.S.

Under the framework of an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, ISC acts as a subcontractor responsible for the design, procurement, and construction of the offshore substation weighing 3,200 tons. Additionally, ISC handles the construction of a 2,000-ton jacket foundation equipped with four piles, ensuring a secure anchorage to the seabed.

Semco Maritime and ISC collaborated closely in the design and engineering phases of the project, while Semco Maritime took charge of installing the electrical system. The entire project team worked in tandem with Vineyard Wind LLC, the client, fostering a constructive partnership throughout the process. The successful completion of the project culminates in a safe handover to the client, a testament to the team’s extensive experience and well-established execution approach.

Upon reaching the installation site, Vineyard Wind LLC will take charge of installing the substation. Subsequently, Semco Maritime and Bladt Industries will assume responsibility for offshore commissioning, commencing their work during the summer season.

Vineyard Wind 1, an 800 MW offshore wind farm project, is a joint venture between Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) funds CI II and CI III. Presently under construction off the coast of Massachusetts, this groundbreaking project aims to meet the region’s energy demands sustainably. Located approximately 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, the wind farm will be equipped with 62 Haliade-X 13 MW turbines. This vast array of turbines is anticipated to generate sufficient electricity to power over 400,000 homes and businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

With plans to commence power generation this year, Vineyard Wind 1 sets the stage for the future of clean energy production in the United States. The successful departure of the offshore substation topside and jacket foundation signifies a significant step forward in this landmark project, creating hope and anticipation for a greener and more sustainable future.
