RWE, a global energy company, has initiated the construction of its debut solar plant in Italy. The 8.3MW Bosco ground-mounted solar array, located near Palermo, Sicily, represents RWE's entry into the Italian solar market.
The project, situated in the Partinico Municipality, spans a 16-hectare area and is set to feature approximately 15,000 bifacial modules. Once operational, the solar array is projected to generate sufficient green electricity to power around 7000 Italian households. Commissioning of the Bosco solar plant is slated for the end of the year.
Katja Wünschel, Chief Executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, emphasized the significance of the Bosco project, stating, “Bosco is RWE's first solar plant under construction in Italy. What makes it special is the exceptionally short time it took from the start of development to construction.”
Wünschel highlighted the streamlined permitting process in Italy, which facilitated the project's rapid progression, stating, “Thanks to the implementation of a new accelerated permitting process in Italy, we were able to reach Ready to Build in less than 18 months.”
She expressed enthusiasm for future endeavors in Italy, a key market for RWE, stating, “This is a great achievement and we look forward to realizing our next projects in Italy, one of our key markets.”
