Sarens, the heavy lifting and transport solutions provider, has wrapped up essential maintenance work on the Longpark wind farm, nestled in the picturesque Scottish borders.
Longpark Wind Farm, which has been generating clean energy since its inception in 2009, boasts an array of 19 turbines with a collective production capacity of 38 megawatts (MW).
To execute their intricate tasks on the Senvion MM82/2050 turbines, Sarens deployed an LTM1500-8.1 crane unit and a Demag AC220-5, in conjunction with additional plant equipment specially rehired for the project. This supplementary equipment included tower lights, a telehandler, a hook, a man basket, and a mobile welfare unit, all of which were instrumental in streamlining the maintenance processes at the site.
One of the key highlights of the operation was the meticulous planning and execution of tandem lift operations. This involved the precise removal of the rotor assembly from the turbine, followed by the delicate reorientation and positioning of the assembly on the crane pad. The intricacies of this task underscored the technical prowess and precision of the Sarens engineering team.
Moreover, the maintenance project necessitated the removal and replacement of the redundant drive train, an operation that was executed with finesse and expertise.
The geographical challenges posed by the steep orography of the wind farm's location did not deter Sarens. To circumvent the need for extensive civil works, Sarens introduced innovative solutions, albeit incurring additional costs for their client. Specifically, the engineering team employed timber mats to elevate the rotor assembly, allowing it to traverse the varying gradients of the landscape seamlessly.
Sarens' successful completion of maintenance work at the Longpark wind farm not only underlines their technical proficiency but also their commitment to sustainable energy production. This accomplishment further solidifies their reputation as a leader in the field of heavy lifting and transport solutions.
